Hello!
For those of you still following this blog: I haven't disappeared, and parasites still rule my life, it seems!
As a compensation for lack of regular postings, I give you the link to a dissertation that I wrote up a couple of years back on Blastocystis and other single-celled intestinal parasites.
The thesis provides insigt into the work that has gone into detecting and differentiating single-celled intestinal parasites of unknown clinical and public health significance.
There is a focus on genetic diversity and host specificity, which are parameters that can help us hypothesise on transmission patterns, virulence, phylogeography and other epidemiolgical features of these parasites.
